Creative Commons is a simple, web-based solution whereby artists can choose according to their needs a licence which allows them to share their works and allow others to draw upon the richness of this shared artistic community, or 'commons'. It is a user-friendly expression of both the Free Software and Open Source concepts in the arts, with a legal grounding that is watertight. A creative artist can choose a license which permits or does not permit sharing, allows or denies commercial reproduction, and requires or does not require attribution of the original creator.
